Union’s Delta-Psi Chapter of Phi Alpha Theta Wins 8th Straight Best Chapter Award
Sep 6, 2010
Union’s Delta-Psi Chapter of Phi Alpha Theta History Honor Society recently received word that it has won its 8th straight Best Chapter Award, this time as a Division II school (3001 – 6000 students). Because the chapter has won the award more than five times, Delta-Psi also earned the prestigious distinction of being a Nels A. Cleven Best Chapter. Dr. Graydon Tunstall, the national executive director of the society, stated in his letter of congratulations to chapter faculty advisor Dr. Stephen Carls: “You and your students have shown admirable dedication to the organization and truly exemplify the mission statement of Phi Alpha Theta.”
In addition to a certificate of recognition, the chapter will receive a prize of $250 to purchase history books for Union’s library. With this year’s money award included, the Delta-Psi Chapter will have contributed $2,000 through its Best Chapter Award prizes to the university’s library to augment its history book holdings. The Delta-Psi Chapter will present a check to the library in a special ceremony once the library has purchased the books and has them in hand.
The leaders of the Delta-Psi Chapter in 2009-2010 were: Noah Arnold, president; Katelyn O’Roark, vice president; Mary Alisa Techentin, secretary; Lauren Bogdan and Joel Wellum, senators. President Noah provided excellent leadership for the chapter throughout the year, and in the process he won the Phi Alpha Theta Thomas S. Morgan Memorial Scholarship to use for work on a master’s degree in history at the University of Mississippi. The other chapter officers also made significant contributions to the success of Delta-Psi.
