Phi Alpha Theta Presents Best Chapter Award Check to Union University Library

The Delta-Psi Chapter of Phi Alpha Theta History Honor Society presented a $250 check to Union University’s Emma Waters Summar Library Director Anna Beth Morgan in a special ceremony at the library on November 22, 2010. The chapter received the money as a part of its 2010 Best Chapter Award from Phi Alpha Theta national headquarters in Florida. Delta-Psi President Kate Cline gave the check to Mrs. Morgan while Vice President Katelyn O’Roark and Faculty Advisor Dr. Stephen Carls observed and held some of the history books that the prize money purchased for Union.
Altogether, the history honor society contributed to the library a total of eleven books that individual Delta-Psi members recommended for purchase. The books included: Grigoris Balakian’s Armenian Golgotha: A Memoir of the Armenian Genocide, 1915-1918; Jonathan H. Ebel’s Faith in the Fight; Religion and the American Soldier in the Great War; Daniel L. Fountain’s Slavery, Civil War, and Salvation: African American Slaves and Christianity, 1830-1870; Henry Louis Gates’ (editor) Lincoln on Race and Slavery; Brian McGinty’s Lincoln and the Court; Evelyn Monahan and Rosemary Neidel-Greenlee’s A Few Good Women: America’s Military Women from World War I to the War in Iraq and Afghanistan; Andrew F. Smith’s Eating History: Thirty Turning Points in the Making of American Cuisine; Betty Collier-Thomas’ Jesus, Jobs, and Justice: African American Women and Religion; Graydon A. Tunstall’s Blood on the Snow: The Carpathian Winter War of 1915; Ruth Webb’s Demons and Dancers: Performance in Late Antiquity; and Vladislav Zubok’s Zhivago’s Children: The Last Russian Intelligentsia
