Phi Alpha Theta, History Department Join Together at Annual French Christmas Dinner
Dec 3, 2010 -
Union’s Delta-Psi Chapter of Phi Alpha Theta History Honor Society joined with the history department to recognize December history graduates and celebrate the end of the fall semester at the society’s Seventh Annual French Christmas Dinner on December 3, 2010. Department Chair Dr. Stephen Carls recognized the accomplishments of graduating history major Camille McCullar and gave her Union University’s Academic Excellence Medal for the history major based on students graduating in December, 2010. In addition, Camille received a Phi Alpha Theta honor cord, a history department coffee mug, and another parting gift.
Thirty people attended the dinner, including eighteen current student members of Union’s Phi Alpha Theta chapter. Noah Arnold, the society’s president in 2009-2010 drove up for the evening from Oxford, Mississippi, where he is a graduate student in history at the University of Mississippi. Several history department members and their spouses also participated in the event.
History major Megan Winters provided guests with a special music program on her electronic piano. Included in her presentation were a couple of short classical works and some traditional Christmas songs.
As for the dinner, the evening began with a cream of vegetable soup (velouté de légumes) followed by a main course that consisted of stuffed steak wraps (paupiettes de boeuf), baked vegetables (ratatouille), and a combination of rice and orzo mixed with parmesan cheese and almonds. A lettuce salad with balsamic vinaigrette dressing and a plate of six different cheeses made up the third course. The dinner ended with four desserts that included vanilla crèmes brûlées, a raspberry trifle (Charlotte aux framboises), an intense chocolate cake (Reine de Saba), and an orange-flavored yule log cake (Bûche de Noël à l’Orange).
