Phi Alpha Theta Holds Spring Initiation and Plenary Meeting
Feb 21, 2012 -
The Delta-Psi Chapter of Phi Alpha Theta History Honor Society held its spring initiation and plenary meeting on February 21, 2012. Chapter Vice President Savannah German conducted the initiation ceremony at which the following students officially joined the society: Allie Durham, Logan Smith, Charles Snow, Heather Stricklin, and Gracie Wise. Delta-Psi President Caitlin Roach awarded the new members their certificates of membership.
President Caitlin presided over the plenary meeting that ensued. The first order of business was the election of officers for the 2012-2013 academic year. Those elected were: Jeffrey Lewoczko, president; Mary Ellen Poe, vice president; Patricia Dawson, secretary; Allie Durham, senator; and Charles Snow, senator. President Caitlin and Vice President Savannah then presented a PowerPoint program of the trip that seven Delta-Psi Chapter student members took with history department faculty members to the Phi Alpha Theta biennial convention in Orlando, Florida, in early January. Following that, President Caitlin announced several upcoming events for the chapter, including: the annual Franco-American bake sale on March 7; the Tennessee Phi Alpha Theta Regional Conference on March 23-24; a trip to watch a 150th Anniversary Battle of Shiloh Reenactment on March 31; the “Red T-Shirt Spirit Day” on April 9; the history club-sponsored department awards banquet on May 3; the Phi Alpha Theta/History Department cookout on May 11; and graduation on May 19. After Dr. Carls talked about Phi Alpha Theta scholarships, paper prizes, and the national Phi Alpha Theta website at www.phialphatheta.org, the meeting was adjourned. Participants ended the evening by enjoying refreshments and engaging in conversation.
