Jun 4, 2012 -
Cody Dew, a history major who graduated on May 19, 2012, capped a stellar season as a relief pitcher for the Union University baseball team when he was named an All-American Honorable Mention player by the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) on June 4, 2012. Earlier in the year, Cody was selected to the TranSouth All-Conference First Team for his pitching success.
Cody set or tied several team records for the Union Bulldogs who won the TranSouth Athletic Conference Baseball Tournament Championship in early May and who won two more games at the NAIA regional baseball tournament held in South Carolina before seeing their season end. The team records that Cody set included the most pitching appearances in a season with 37, the most relief pitching appearances in a season with 37, the most career pitching appearances with 77, and the most relief career appearances with 74. He tied Bulldogs baseball Coach Brent Fronabarger’s long-standing record for saves in a single season with 10, and he tied another record set in 1986 by Tommy Locke for best winning percentage in a single season at .917, with 11 wins and 1 loss. Cody, who is from Halls, Tennessee, had a 2.27 ERA for the 2012 season with the Bulldogs.
