Phi Alpha Theta Provides Volunteers for Racing Event Benefiting Hippotherapy

Sep 21, 2013

Eight Phi Alpha Theta members served as volunteers at the annual “Racing So They Can Ride” running event on September 21. The event consisted of competitive 5K and 10K runs as well as a 1-mile fun run. All monies raised from the races went to support the hippotherapy program of the Rein-Bow Riding Academy that is a part of the Therapy and Learning Center in Jackson. There were 180 runners who participated in the races. Union history major Stephen Lewoczko won the men’s 5K race and his brother Evan, a Union chemistry major, took first place in the men’s 10K. The racing activities began and ended in the parking lot of Dick’s Sporting Goods.

The Phi Alpha Theta volunteers included: Dr. Henry Allen, Mr. Robert Briley, Dr. Alice-Catherine Carls, Dr. Stephen Carls, Shelby Pace, Logan Smith, Charles Snow, and Gracie Wise. A breakfast for the Delta-Psi chapter volunteers took place at Panera Bread following the races.
