Graduating History Major Receives Two Academic Honors

Dec 14, 2013

History major Lowell Van Ness received two academic honors as Union’s fall semester drew to a close in December, 2013.

The first recognition came when Dr. Stephen Carls presented him with Union’s fall semester Academic Excellence Medal in History on December 5. Van Ness was voted this honor by the history department.

On the morning of December 14, the Union University Honors Community recognized Van Ness at a special hooding ceremony for his success in the Discipline-Specific Honors Program in History. Dr. Scott Huelin, the Honors Community director, presided at the event, and joined with Dr. Stephen Carls in placing a bachelor’s hood on Van Ness to wear at Union’s graduation ceremony later that morning. The Honors Community also celebrated Ryan Edenfield’s completion of an honors program in Biblical Studies-Languages with a hood placement on her. Several members of Van Ness’s family attended the event.
