Phi Alpha Theta Inducts Five New Members at Spring Initiation/Plenary Meeting

Feb 18, 2014

The Delta-Psi chapter of Phi Alpha Theta History Honor Society inducted five new members at its spring initiation/plenary meeting on February 18, 2014. Chapter Vice President Charles Snow conducted the initiation ceremony. The new inductees included Allen Bradley, Sarah Carroll, Hannah Jones, Kelly Rawls, and Kensie Zills.

Chapter President Gracie Wise led the business meeting that followed. One agenda item was the election of officers for 2014-2015. Elected to office for next year were: Faith Bagley, president; Hannah Jones, vice president; Sarah Carroll, secretary; Allen Bradley, senator; and Kensie Zills, senator. Wise mentioned the Tennessee Phi Alpha Theta Regional Conference at Tennessee Tech University on February 22, and she recognized by name the five students planning to present papers there. She also announced other items on the chapter’s spring semester schedule, including: the annual Franco-American Confection and Bake Sale; attendance at the annual Old Hickory Rotary Club Pancake Breakfast; a community service project at Jackson’s Thelma Barker Elementary School; a field trip to Discovery Park of America; the annual Red T-shirt Spirit Day; the history department’s awards banquet; and the 22nd Phi Alpha Theta/History Department Cookout. Wise and Snow then presented a PowerPoint presentation of the trip that several Delta-Psi chapter members took to the Phi Alpha Theta Biennial Convention in Albuquerque, New Mexico, in early January. Dr. Stephen Carls completed the business meeting by announcing nationally-sponsored Phi Alpha Theta scholarship and paper competition opportunities.

The evening concluded with refreshments that consisted of soft drinks, milk, and several kinds of homemade cookies – carrot cake, chocolate chip, peanut butter-chocolate chip, and Heath Bar Crunch-chocolate chip.
