History Students Honored at Union’s Annual Awards Day Convocation

May 9, 2014

Several history students were among those honored at Union University’s Annual Awards Day Convocation on May 9, 2014. History majors Allie Durham and Gracie Wise were named to Who’s Who among Students in American Universities and Colleges, as was history minor Grace Morriss. Wise was also the recipient of the Academic Excellence Medal in History, although she was unable to attend the presentation because of an off-campus engagement. Morriss was recognized with the Service Through Engineering Award.

Dr. Stephen Carls presented the first place award in the Dr. James Alex Baggett History Research Paper Competition to Durham for her paper on “Rendering Freedom: The Works of Winslow Homer and the Condition of the Emancipated Slave.” Durham also won the Academic Excellence Medal in French.

Finally, history major Zach Thompson won the Broadman and Holman Award for being considered the student with the most potential for making a significant contribution to the ministerial field.
