Welcome

About Us

Welcome to the Department of Language at Union University!

Learning another language takes time and dedication but brings with it abundant reward. Knowing another language is an asset in any career field--including business, medicine, social work, missions, education, translation and the fine arts.

Learning another language also opens doors to personal enrichment, as you begin to understand another culture (and perhaps yourself) more and more intimately. You can travel beyond the popular tourist destinations. You can read the news from a perspective completely different than the one always presented to you. You can begin to truly understand people from a culture other than your own.

The Department of Language uses a multifaceted and innovative language curriculum to enable students to develop high levels of linguistic proficiency and cultural understanding. Our courses, along with our language center, conversation groups and immersion experience programs all help students acquire the linguistic and cultural skills they need to succeed.

For more information about the department, please contact Jean Marie Walls, Department Chair.

If you talk to a man in a language he understands, that goes to his head.
If you talk to him in his language, that goes to he heart.
