Notes from the Chair… Dear Alumni and Friends, This is a year of reflection and looking ahead for the Language Department as we work on program evaluation and projections through 2010. We think of you who have been a part of our lives and a part of our program at Union. We look back with appreciation for your contributions and input as we have sought to improve the curriculum and other aspects of the Department. For those of you whose connection to the Department is more long-standing, many changes have been made over the past few years with new faculty, new courses, new programs. In addition to our undergraduate offerings we offer TESL graduate courses on a regular basis and Spanish and French as needed. Several of us teach in the Union’s Master of Arts in Intercultural Studies Program in San Francisco and Jackson. Every year the number of our students who study abroad increases and we are excited about the added dimension that these activities and experiences add to the Department. We’ve added a few alumni highlights to the newsletter from those of you from whom we’ve had news in the past few years. We would love to hear from more of you. As we plan for the future, we value your suggestions and input. We would like to organize an electronic advisory group so if you are interested in participating please let us know of your willingness to participate. We hope that some of you will be able to join us at Julie Glosson’s home for the Homecoming Party. This is a great opportunity to renew old ties and to connect with the current students. Best regards, Jean Marie Walls |
