Department Graduates Eight

The Department of Political Science graduated eight students on a hot summer evening on May 22. The Department congratulates them on their hard work and achievements and wish them the best in their future endeavors.

Matt Kuchem of Ft. Worth, TX graduated summa cum laude with a double major in Political Science and Broadcast journalism. He also won the Tigrett Medal which is awarded to the graduating senior who best exmplefies service, academics, and character. He is currently interning for Congresswoman Kay Granger in Washington, D.C. and he hopes to begin his Ph.D. in political science starting in the fall of 2011.

Roger Bolick of Ooltewah, TN is continuing his studies down the road from Union this fall beginning law school at the University of Memphis. Roger is a former President of Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity.

Leah Heinsch of Kissimmee, FL will take a month or so off after graduation and then she will begin work as a missionary and teacher in the Philippines this August.

Jared Nolen of Tracey, CA graduated on Saturday and got married on Sunday to Meg Owen (a December UU Political Science grad). Jared is best known around Union for his Variety Show Act with his roommates. After Jared and Meg return from their honeymoon, Jared will start as an Outside Sales Representative for A-Z Office Resource covering West Tennessee.

Maggie Paredes of Jonesboro, AR is not content with just one degree. She graduated with two degrees: one in Political Science and the other in International Business. She spent this past Spring working in the Tennessee Secretary of State's Office. She hopes to go to graduate school in the future but in the meantime will work part time managing a business and working in international development.

Emily Stephens of Paragould, AR graduated summa cum laude. A former President of Kappa Delta Sorority, she will use your leadership skills and interest in health care to pursue a Masters in Public Health from the University of Arkansas.  

Daniel Weise of Jackson, TN did the reverse of Jared. He married Kelly Reid on Friday and graduated (cum laude) on Saturday. Daniel and Kelly will both be working for the Jackson Madison County School System next year. Daniel will teach History and Government at JCM and be the assistant basketball coach while Kelly will teach English as a Second Language.

Joel Lawson of Bartlett, TN graduated and hopes to work on a campaign this election season.
