  • Dr. Nina C. Heckler is Chair of the Department of Sociology and Family Studies and Assistant Professor at Union University. Dr. Heckler received her PhD in Sociology & Instructional Technologies from the University of Alabama, MA from St Mary's University in Community Counseling and MA from Baylor University in Sociology. Since affiliating with Union, she has published in Teaching Sociology (Jan 2013) and Journal of Research on Technology in Education (Spring 2013).

  • Dr. Phil Davignon is a native of Ypsilanti, MI. He received his B.A. from Hillsdale College, where he played football and started on the offensive line for three seasons. He earned his M.A. and Ph.D. from Baylor University, and wrote his dissertation on the characteristics of Christian colleges and universities (such as Union) that help students to maintain religious belief and practice during college. Dr. Davignon has also examined intersection between R-rated movies and religious belief and practice. This research was published in Sociological Spectrum and the Review of Religious Research and also featured in national media sources including the Huffington Post and Christianity Today.

  • Dr. Davignon’s wife Melissa is a counselor, meaning she works with people on a micro level, while he generally studies people on a macro level. They enjoy reading, playing sports, working out, and being active at church.
