Dr. Cynthia (Cindy) Powers, Professor of Nursing, earned her RN license in 1976. She held various administrative and leadership positions in Memphis, TN area hospital ls from 1979-2008. As a medical-surgical nurse the majority of her clinical experience is in nephrology nursing, with a focus in adult hemodialysis. Her clinical experiences also include pediatric nephrology, acute dialysis, peritoneal dialysis, and transplant. Dr. Powers also has experience in adult and pediatric medical surgical nursing, as well as pediatric critical care, quality improvement, electronic medical records, project implementation, online learning and teaching, and she is credentialed as an American Heart Association instructor in BLS, ACLS, and PALS.
Dr. Powers served on the Board of Directors of the American Nephrology Nurses Association (ANNA) and remains active in several professional nursing organizations, including ANNA, ANA, TNA, STTI, and the American Organization of Nurse Executives. Dr. Powers has published in professional journals and presents at local, regional, and national conferences.
After serving as adjunct faculty she joined Union in 2008. Dr. Powers teaches in the undergraduate, masters, and doctoral programs and serves as Chair of Nursing Administration, Nursing Education, and Executive Leadership Tracks of Graduate Nursing Programs in the School of Nursing.
