New Student Orientation

We would like to give a hearty welcome to you and your family. We are very excited you have chosen Union University to further your education. It is our hope at Union that you discover God’s plan for your life and strive to make His plans your plans.

Our ultimate goal for orientation is very simple: to help you adjust to the exciting transition from one school to another. We want you to fall in love with Union right away (if you haven’t already) to help make this move a little easier.

Schedule:
We have a full program planned especially for you. We believe these events will be very beneficial to you as you are new to the campus. This program is designed to help you learn more about Union. There will be an overwhelming amount of information presented to you during these first few days so be sure to get enough rest. Our faculty and staff have worked diligently to make each “informative” session fun and exciting. We are sure orientation will be entertaining! Be sure to attend each scheduled event so you will be “in the know.” Our plan is that New Student Orientation will keep you so busy, you won’t have time to be homesick.

	Saturday, August 25
10:00-1:00	Resident Students Move Into Housing
11:00-3:00	UU Lifeway Christian Store Open Also Kroger, Wal-Mart, etc. (Visit with parents and new friends and purchase the things you need for your room.)
11:00-3:45	Make sure you have your student ID – Safety & Security Purchase picnic tickets at Union Station Make sure your student account is clear/sign up for the FACTS plan
4:30	WELCOME TO UNION UNIVERSITY G.M. Savage Memorial Chapel (Required General Meeting)
4:45	Students meet in FOCUS Groups (Specific classrooms; see Master List)
4:45	Parent's Seminar – Chapel with Dean Kimberly Thornbury
6:00-7:00	Picnic – The Fountain (Look for your state and meet your friends. New students eat free; $3.00/person for each family member. Your family is WELCOME to attend! Seating available in the cafeteria or enjoy a picnic on the grounds!)
7:30	Worship – Chapel Todd Brady, Minister to the University Parents are encouraged to stay for this Worship service
9:00	Pizza Party for Students-outside the Chapel Provided by Student Activities Council Time to tell your family: “Adios, sayonara, aufWiedersehen, adieu...goodbye!”
10:00	Welcome Party – Chapel FOCUS (New Student Orientation Counselors for Union Students)


	Sunday, August 26
8:30-9:15	Breakfast - Cafeteria
9:30	FOCUS Groups - Assigned Classrooms
10:30	Morning Worship - Chapel Jay Ridenour, Director of Discipleship Ministries
12:00	Lunch – Cafeteria
1:00-2:00	Residence Life Meeting- Chapel (resident students only)
2:00-4:00	FOCUS-Festival – East Lawn Music, games, and giveaways!! Eclipse in concert – bring a blanket Refreshment Break – sponsored by Campus Ministries
4:30-5:30	Dinner – Cafeteria
5:30-8:30	Evening Activities are your choice - You may attend the church of your choice, visit new suitemates, get your room organized, or the most favorite of ALL college activities - Sleep! Don't miss the SAC Show!
8:30-10:00	Right is the Price - Chapel SAC Entertainment
10:05	Dairy Queen Treats

6:15	Vans begin leaving Coburn Dining Room... ...for a Dessert Party – President Dockery's home
8:30	Choose one of the following activities: a) Capture the Flag - meet @ the Fountain b) Open Mic - meet in the Student Lounge to perform or just relax

1:00-2:00	LIFE Group Presentation—Small Gym
2:00-4:00	AFTERNOON EVENTS—Everyone wins a prize!!! Campus Life Fair—PAC Main Hall Meet Union’s student organizations & clubs Refreshment Break– PAC Main Hall Sponsored by the Academic Center Auditions—Variety Show in Chapel Auditions—Singers and Chapel Choir in Hartley Recital Hall (Jennings) Stafford Loan Recipients in Harvey Hall (SUB) REQUIRED video in order to receive funds. Showing at 2pm & 3pm.
