2010 Fair RecapOver 150 elementary through high school students from across West Tennessee participated in the 48th West Tennessee Regional Science and Engineering Fair (WTRSEF) on Friday, March 12, at Union University. The WTRSEF, sponsored and hosted by Union University and affiliated with the 61st Intel International Science and Engineering Fair, promotes science and engineering education at the elementary through high school levels by allowing students to present science and engineering projects in a competition. The students competing at the regional fair already placed first, second, or third in their school or county fair. Over fifty science experts from West Tennessee -- science teachers, engineers, doctors, professors, and scientists, among others -- serve as judges for the fair. Over sixty-five prizes are awarded, sponsored by local, state, and national organizations and include cash prizes up to $250 and a $1000 college scholarship. The first and second-place high school winners received an all-expenses paid trip to the 61st Intel International Science and Engineering Fair, to be held May 10-14, 2010, in San Jose, California.
