Microsoft simplifies look of email, calendar

Access and basic use unchanged

By September 21, your email and calendar will have a new look. Microsoft is updating its Office 365 services to look more like Office 2013. You'll see a simpler design that focuses on ease of use.

Here are the main changes you'll notice:

There's no change to basic use or access:

Remember that your email address is an official means of University communication. Check it regularly and respond as requested.


Who's protecting your information and your devices? You!

STOP - Before using the Internet, take time to understand the risks and learn how to spot potential problems.

THINK - How could your actions online impact you, your family or the University? Where is that link going? Is that email really from someone you know? What are the risks of a wireless network?

CONNECT - Enjoy the Internet with confidence, knowing you've taken the right steps to safeguard yourself, your information and your devices.

Office 2013 available on student lab computers

The latest versions of Word, Excel and PowerPoint are now on computers in the C-2, C-3, BAC-45, and BAC-38 labs on the Jackson campus. Office 2013 will be installed in other labs, classrooms and offices when and where possible.

Office 2013 for Windows has a clean, new look designed to make creating, editing, reading and sharing documents easier and quicker.

Here are a few highlights:

If you have an older version of Office, don't worry. Office 2013 still works with files created in Office 2010/11 and earlier.

Needing to contact students, faculty, staff?

You can get contact information and view pictures of students, faculty members and staff members at

Select UU Contact Directories & Pictures on the portal's red UU Resources menu.

You'll find contact lists for campuses, employees and departments as well as pictures of student and employees. Email addresses are included.

Student pictorial directories are updated each fall. Employee information is updated throughout the year.
