The Emma Waters Summar Library is the central academic common for Union
University. The library staff aspires to provide for the University excellent
service, a broad and current resource collection, and a learning environment
reflective of the finest Christian intellectual traditions.
GOALS
- To establish and maintain a range and quality of services, which
support, enhance, and promote the academic programs of the university, and
which promote lifelong learning.
- To select materials and develop collections which support the specific
academic programs of the university, and to seek faculty, staff, and student
participation in the selection process.
- To store, preserve, and organize for use materials that support the
university’s teaching and research mission.
- To provide access to information stored in libraries and worldwide
databases; to provide for and lend materials in a variety of formats; and to
teach the academic community how to select, locate, and use the information
they need.
- To provide a service-oriented staff of qualified librarians and support
personnel to assist users in making effective use of library resources,
facilities, and services.
- To accommodate users, collections, and staff in physical facilities that
are conducive to study, work, and the preservation of materials.
- To participate in cooperative relationships with national, regional,
state, and local libraries.
- To work cooperatively with university departments in sharing
technological resources.
- To continually improve the library’s performance in carrying out its
mission.
