Some of you may have noticed by now that Ebscohost’s Academic Search Premier is no longer on our databases list. We now have access to an excellent multidisciplinary database through the Tennessee Electronic Library—Academic OneFile. This database provides full text access to millions of articles in a variety of disciplines. If you have any questions about using Academic OneFile or any of our databases, contact reference@uu.edu. If you have comments or suggestions about database resources contact library@uu.edu.

Your very own Summar Library at Union University is now accessible through Google Scholar. Now, when you search Google Scholar you can know if the resulting articles are available through our databases. In your Google Scholar results, you may see a link at the end of the title line that says “Full-text @ Union Univ.” This will link you back to electronic journal resources we hold to find the text of the article. If you do not see the full-text link, you may see a link at the bottom of the record that says “Check Summar Library.” These links will show up automatically if you are on campus. To activate them on a computer off campus, simply go to http://scholar.google.com and select “Scholar Preferences.” About halfway down the page is a box with a button that says “Find Library.” You need to select “Union University—Summar Library.” There is another Union University listed so make sure you get the right one. While you are at it, you might also want to select “Open WorldCat—Library Search.” This puts a link labeled “library search” at the bottom of book records. Following that link allows you to input a zip code and see the closest libraries that have a copy of the book. Now you are all set to use the ease and flexibility of Google Scholar searching to access resources at Summar Library.

Complete hours will be posted outside the RAC, which is located in Summar Library near the computer workstations. You may schedule an appointment with a librarian, or just stop in and get help on your research assignments. -

Welcome to the new website of the Emma Waters Summar Library. Many, many thanks to Cam Tracy for all the hard work he has put into helping us realize our vision for this website. And to Curt Parish for helping integrate our library catalog. Over the next few days we may be working out some kinks and will be adding more information to some areas of the website. I'll also be highlighting some areas that have new content that we hope will help our students and faculty with their research. We hope you will explore the new website and let us know what you think and how we can make it even better. Just click on the "contact us" button above to give us your feedback. -
