      Jackson, Tenn. – September 29, 2000 – Union University
      students will get the chance to learn more about the voting process and
      local and national issues facing them Wednesday, Oct. 4 during "Vote
      2000," a day dedicated to promoting good citizenship by Union
      students.
       Sponsored by the university's Student Government Association, Students
      in Free Enterprise, and the recently-formed College Republicans
      organization, the day will begin with a forum titled "Christians,
      Candidates and Causes," which will occur at 10 a.m. in the G.M.
      Savage Memorial Chapel. 
      Democrat State Senator Roy Herron, Republican State Representative
      Larry Scroggs, former 1987 Miss America and political activist Kellye Cash
      Sheppard, and Union's Graves Associate Professor of Moral Philosophy David
      Gushee all will participate on the panel. Students will be given
      opportunity to ask questions of the panelists. 
      A patriotic rally will be held from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Barefoot
      Student Union Building. Students will have the opportunity to register to
      vote, as well as find out more about local and national candidates'
      platforms and agendas.
