JACKSON, Tenn. – July 5, 2007– David Gushee, Graves Professor of Moral Philsophy at Union University for the past 11 years, has resigned from Union to accept a role with Mercer University’s McAfee School of Theology.
“We’re deeply grateful for the impact David Gushee has had on the Union campus over the last 11 years,” Union President David S. Dockery said. “We appreciate his influence on students, his writings and his leadership on our faculty, and we wish God’s blessings on him in this new opportunity.”
Gushee, who also has served as senior fellow of Union’s Carl F.H. Henry Center, will assume the role of Distinguished Professor of Christian Ethics at Mercer, effective immediately.
“Union University has been a great place to serve,” Gushee said. “I have enjoyed participating in the building and growth of a truly excellent university. I will always cherish the friendships that God has made possible with my colleagues, beginning in the School of Christian Studies and extending throughout the campus.”
Dockery said a search for Gushee’s replacement will begin immediately.
