
JACKSON, Tenn. – Oct. 2, 2007– Best-selling author Jim Trelease will address parents, teachers and the general public Oct. 11 at Union University about the importance of reading aloud to children as a way to instill a love for literature.
Trelease is the author of the New York Times best-seller “The Read Aloud Handbook.” His lecture address is entitled “Reading aloud: Motivating children to make books into friends, not enemies.”
He spent 20 years as a writer for a daily newspaper in New England, and now speaks around the country to various schools and educational groups. A book signing will follow Trelease’s address.
The presentation will begin at 6:30 p.m. in the G.M. Savage Memorial Chapel in the Penick Academic Complex. It is free and open to the public.
