Union student dies of apparent gunshot wound

JACKSON, Tenn.Feb. 12, 2014 – A Union University student was found dead in her car in the parking lot of an auxiliary building on the edge of the Union campus early Feb. 12.

Olivia Greenlee, 21, a commuter student from Dyersburg, was found inside her vehicle in the Luther Hall parking lot. A gun was found inside the car as well, according to a Jackson Police Department release. The preliminary cause of death appears to be a gunshot wound.

JPD is continuing to investigate the matter, and Union officials are cooperating fully with the investigation. Union administrators also emphasized that there is no safety threat to the campus.

“We are sad to learn of the death of our student, Olivia Greenlee, a senior music major from Dyersburg,” Union President David S. Dockery said. “As we learn additional information, we will seek to share it with the Union community. Until then, please join us in praying for the family and friends of Olivia, and for the entire Union community in this hour of need.”

The Union campus has been closed today due to the forecast of inclement weather.
