JACKSON, Tenn.March 24, 2014 – Kiplinger’s Personal Finance has ranked Union University among the top 10 private universities in the South for quality and value.

Kiplinger’s rankings include the top 10 lists for public universities, private universities and liberal arts colleges in the Southeast and Mid-South. Among the top 10 private universities, Kiplinger’s ranked Union 10th.

“This recognition from Kiplinger's is strong confirmation of what our students and families at Union say about their experience – Union University is a great value,” said Union president-elect Samuel W. “Dub” Oliver. “The core values of excellence-driven, Christ-centered, people-focused and future-directed have helped to create an organization that is among the best in higher education.”

Oliver added that “this recognition is an encouragement to everyone at Union who is working hard every day to ensure the highest quality learning environment for our students.”

The ranking is part of Kiplinger’s College Finder tool, which lists college values based on region, campus size and price, Kiplinger’s said. The rankings also measure academic quality, which includes the student admission rate (the number of students accepted out of those who apply), the test scores of incoming freshmen, the ratio of students to faculty members and the four- and five-year graduation rates.

Duke, Vanderbilt and Emory topped the list. Other than Union, Vanderbilt was the only Tennessee institution to be ranked among the South’s top private universities.

In addition, Union recently ranked 77th in Kiplinger’s list of the top 100 private universities in the nation.
