Union’s SIFE helps dreams become reality for area scouts

JACKSON, Tenn.Nov. 20, 2002 – Union University’s Students in Free Enterprise (SIFE) will coordinate and host a one-day event for Jackson-area Girl Scouts, Saturday, Dec. 7 titled “Dreams to Reality,” which will give cadet and senior Girl Scouts the opportunity to earn silver and gold awards. Throughout the year, the scouts try to earn various awards by attending seminars and workshops. The silver award is the highest honor for junior high scouts, while gold is the highest for high school girls.

“Dreams to Reality” will help 55 middle and high school scouts plan for their future careers by taking them through a series of workshops. Throughout the day, the scouts will attend workshops that will allow them to assess their personalities, teach them how to search for and reply to advertisements for job positions, complete job applications, and even how to interview for a job. The day’s events also include a panel discussion of local working women as well as a career fashion show.

Career workshop leaders will include:
• Jackie Taylor (Career Services at Union University)
• Paige Holmes (Jackson Clinic)
• Janice Shipman (West Tennessee Business College)
• Kenny Holt (City Council Member and Professor at Union University)
