JACKSON, Tenn. – April 15, 2003– Union University's Students in Free Enterprise (SIFE) team was declared regional champion at the SIFE competition April 11, in St. Louis. The team earned $1000 and a spot at the nationals, where they placed in the top 16 last year.
The purpose of SIFE is to teach others about the free enterprise system. This year, Union's 30-member team completed 26 projects to educate the community. The team was judged based on a 24-minute presentation outlining those projects.
Union's SIFE team will attend the SIFE National Competition in Kansas City, Missouri, May 12-13. There they will compete with 400 colleges and universities from all over the United States. Prizes will be awarded to the top 16 competing teams.
"At Union, we try to stress servant leadership and personal responsibility," said Bill Nance, assistant professor of management and Sam M. Walton Free Enterprise Fellow. "These students exemplify that, working selflessly to benefit the community and the university."
