Organizational Mission: To empower the local church to serve the most vulnerable

Internship Description: A holistic approach to serving among refugee communities in Memphis, TN. Emphasis placed upon responding to physical, relational, and spiritual needs of refugees in their assimilation to life in America while working closely with the broader community and church.

Program Description: The Intern Immersion Program at World Relief Memphis offers individuals a global mission opportunity without leaving the US. The World Relief Memphis office was opened in the Fall of 2012 and is in need of visionary, self-starters committed to Christ and eager to help build an internship program in Memphis. A core component of the program will be immersion into the refugee communities represented in Memphis (primarily Bhutanese, Somali, Iraqi, and East African). This is an eight-ten week summer immersion experience in which interns will live nearby refugees in Memphis in order to develop more meaningful relationships both during and after work hours. Our hope is to create an environment in which life-changing relationships can be formed. Throughout the internship, participants will learn the challenges and blessings of sharing the Christian faith cross-culturally and respectfully despite language barriers. Ministry - sharing the love of Jesus in word and deed - is central to World Relief's work and will be incorporated throughout the internship's three main components: resettlement work, community or development initiatives, and relationship-building.
