Graduation

Graduation Line-up.

             Graduates should report to the fellowship hall at West Jackson Baptist Church by 10:00 am.  The fellowship hall is located on the west side of West Jackson Baptist Church.  We will line up in alphabetical order according to degree and then last name.  Note:  Since we will not have a rehearsal for graduation, please carefully read the special instructions below and be certain to be on time to line up for last minute instructions.

Graduation Exercises.

***Special Graduation Instructions

Processional:

             The processional will proceed down the foyer of the church and will proceed into the sanctuary down the left aisle facing the platform.  The graduates will be seated in the front two sections of seats in the sanctuary.

             Remain standing until after the invocation.  (Men should remove caps only during the invocation and benediction and wear caps during the rest of the program.)

 

Conferring of Degrees:

             Dr. Carla Sanderson will present the class to President Dockery who will respond briefly.

             The first row of graduates will rise together and then proceed to the bottom step of the stage (at the right side as you are looking at the stage.)  As the line gets shorter, the next row will proceed to the stage and each row thereafter.

             The dean of your school or college will call the names.  Graduates will step onto the stage. (Do not cross the stage until you hear your name being called.  There may be someone who is not here but their name will be called in absentia.)  You will walk across the stage as your name is being read and receive your diploma from Dr. Dockery and shake his hand.  A photographer will capture this special moment.  Accept the diploma in your left hand and remember to shake with your right hand.

             As you leave the stage, the tassel should be changed to the left side of the cap.  You then should proceed to your seat and be seated.

 

Recessional:

             Please leave the sanctuary by the center aisle in the same manner as you came in.
