STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM:

You have just graduated from high school. It is time to get a job. You will need to build a resume that shouts, "I am the best person for this job!" You will also need to know some basic steps in the job application process. So lets get started...

Eng IV Communication for Life

Standard: 1.01Use a variety of strategies to produce such documents as memos, resumes, letters, applications, proposals, and technical instructions.

Standard: 1.04 Use a variety of strategies for personal and business applications such as memos, resumes, letters, applications, proposals, and technical instructions.

Business Communication

Standard: 3.4A Applies resume-writing to create a personal resume.

Standard: 3.4B Applies job application skills to complete a sample job application

   Standard: 3.4C Prepares an accurate and well-designed personal resume, letter of application and thank you letter.

   Standard: 3.4D Completes a job application form that is correct, neat, and complete.

SCAFFOLDING ACTIVITIES:

The students will complete basic word processing and PowerPoint scaffolding activities in class before beginning the overall presentation in order to ensure basic computer skills have been learned to complete this project.

Activity One

  1. Select at least 3 websites from the resume column below and research the proper techniques for developing a well-rounded resume. (knowledge, comprehension)
  2. Use the data collected from the websites to prepare a resume using Microsoft Word. (application, synthesis)

 

 

                                            

Activity Two

  1. Select at least 3 websites from the job application list below. Find data from each on proper techniques for successfully completing a job interview and the application process. (comprehension, application, analysis)
  2. Combine the information researched into a PowerPoint presentation consisting of at least five to six slides (1 introduction slide, 4 slides that give the facts about the subject, and 1 slide with the groups final thoughts on the project.) (evaluation)
