Supplemental Activities

Literature:

•     Read the poem "My Garden" and have students illustrate the  poem afterwards.

My Garden
This is my garden.  I'll rake it with care.
And then some flower seeds I'll plant there.
The sun will shine,
And rain will fall,
And my garden will blossom and grow straight and tall.

•     Read the poem "Little Brown Seed" and students will role play the poem.

Little Brown Seed
I'm a little brown seed
Rolled up in a tiny ball
I'll wait for the rain and sunshine
To make me big and tall

Science:

• Book activity - A Sprouting Bean.   The student will color and fill in vocabulary word as directed by the teacher.  They will cut out seed shapes and staple together as a book.

• The teacher will read The Carrot Seed by Ruth Krauss and Pumpkin, Pumpkin by Jeanne Titherington.
