8 Steps Closer to Your Dog

 

1. Go to the scaffolding activities for Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word, complete, and then move to Step 2.

2. Now you are on your way to getting your dog. First, you need to compare prices of the following items at two different stores. Click on the links below to find the price of these items: collar, leash, shampoo, food bowl, water bowl, dog house or crate, bag of dog food, doggie bed, and 3 toys. Place all of the information into an Excel spreadsheet. Round all of the prices to the nearest dollar. (Application)
Items should be in Columns A2 - A12
Store Names in B1 and C1
Prices in B2 - B12 and C2 - C12

3. Using the information in excel find the total spent at each store using the function button (the totals should be in B13 and C13). (Application)

4. Next, find the average cost of each item using the function button (averages/mean will be in cells D2 - D12).

5. Create a header for this page with your name.  Print this page. Circle the store that is the better buy!

6. Create two graphs, one of each store (include store name, items and prices) in Excel using the chart wizard. Print each graph. (Synthesis)

7. Click on the following links and find some information (three or more tips) on how to care for a dog. Write this information down on a sheet of paper.

8. Go to Microsoft Word and make a 1 page flyer to show your parents you are ready to care for a dog. Include your tips, the store where you will buy your supplies, and a clipart of a dog. Center all of your work on the page, use a colored font, make font 18pts, and you may use any font you like. Include a header on this page. Print when finished! (Evaluation and Comprehension)
