              What are the Implications of Having a Best Friend?

 

As a middle school student, what are your thoughts about friendship?  What is the definition of friendship?  What does it take to be a best friend? What blessings and implications could come along with the gaining of a best friend?  As you read "Bridge to Terabithia" by Katherine Patterson, you will take a look at your thoughts to these questions, and you might just discover that during your reading, your answers change or develop in an entirely different way than you first expected.

      Week 1: Introduction to Katherine Patterson and Online Learning

Take on the role of an autobiographical reporter.  Use your answers to these questions to write an autobiography of Katherine Peterson that could be used on the covers of her novels.  Complete your autobiography in Microsoft Word, save it as "Katherine Patterson Autobiograpy" on YOUR OWN DISK, and then print a copy of it for your portfolio.  For help with how to use Microsoft Word to create a word document, you may go to  Microsoft Word Directions .

How Will I be Graded?

Throughout the completion of this learning web, you will be creating a portfolio for assessment purposes.  One form of the portfolio will be a hard copy of all of your work which we will keep in a folder in the classroom. Another form will be a computer disk on which you save all of your assignments.

Friendship Poetry

Throughout the reading of this book, you were guided to think about the friendships in your own life as you became a part of the friendship of Jess and Leslie.  Refer back to the questions first introduced to you at the beginning of this learning web.  Gather your thoughts on friendship, and write a 16 line poem describing what friendship means to you.  Complete your poem in Microsoft Word.  Center the text on the page, and include at least one graphic.  Don't forget to include your title and your name!   To see an example of how this should look, go to Poem Example After that,  use an internet search engine to find and print three other poems about friendship.
