We're Going On a Bear Hunt

Scaffolding

The teacher will lead lessons on Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel during the first semester. The lessons will focus on basic computer skills including typing, inserting clipart, and changing font.  To begin this unit of study, the class will construct a KWL chart about bears.  Then, the teacher will read The World of the Polar Bear by Norbert Rosing and Black Bear: North America's Bear by Stephen R. Swinburne. 

 

Problem

You have a new job at the zoo.  You must take care of the bears.  You need to know the differences between Polar Bears and Black Bears so you will be able to take care of them.

Activities

Activity #1

You will use a Venn Diagram to compare Polar bears and Black bears in Word. You may use the KLW chart on the board to help you with this activity. Click on the bear pawand follow the directions.  After completing this activity, print it off and give it to the teacher. (Knowledge, Application, and Analysis)

 

Activity #2

You will use Excel to put Bear words in ABC order.  Click on the bear pawto begin.  After completing this activity, print it off and give it to the teacher. (Knowledge and Application)

 

Activity #3

Put your Bear facts to the test by completing this Power Point.  Click on the bear pawto begin.  After completing this activity, print it off and give it to the teacher.  (Knowledge, Application, Comprehension, and Synthesis)
