Why be a member?
 
Problem:
You have just graduated from college and are interviewing for the first time.  Your interviewer asks you about your high school and college business club affiliations.

Will you be able to say your were a member of the BPA or FBLA when the interviewer asks?

Materials Needed: 
1.  One computer per group.  
2.  Microsoft Word and PowerPoint.
 

 
Assignment Completion Date:
Presentation and print out of work will be due 3 class periods from today.  (Example:  Assigned on Monday- due on Thursday) 
 

 
Scaffolding Activities: 
Students will have completed state standards on utilizing tables in MSWord and be familiar with basic PowerPoint concepts.
 

 
Directions:
1.  Utilizing the internet, you are to research the BPA and FBLA.  (Sites listed above)
2.  Utilizing MSWord, you will create a table that is 3 columns wide.
3.  Label your table "BPA and FBLA:  Similarities and Differences
4.  Label your columns "Characteristic", "BPA", "FBLA"  (Example provided below)
5.  Under the column "Characteristic", you will list a characteristic that is of interest to you.
6.  Under the other columns, you compare/contrast the two organizations.
7.  At least 6 characteristics are to be used.
8.  Place a header on the document with your group members' names, class period, and date.
9.  Add clipart, etc.
10.  Create a 4 slide presentation in PowerPoint (introduction, similarities, differences, conclusion about the benefits of joining the organizations)

 

Remember to save your work in "T" drive!!!

 
Example:
Characteristic BPA FBLA
Competitions and conferences BPA provides the opportunity for students to participate in state, regional, and national conferences. FBLA-PBL sponsors conferences and seminars for members and advisers, which are designed to enhance experience initially developed on the local and state level.
Levels of Involvement BPA offers program involvement in four (4) divisions: Secondary, Post-Secondary, Associate, and Alumni FBLA has four divisions:  for high school students; FBLA Middle Level for junior high, middle and intermediate school students; PBL for postsecondary students; and the Professional Alumni Division for business people, educators and parents, who support the goals of the Association.
** Characteristics chosen should be those that are of interest to your group members. 
 

 
Assessment:
Table will be assigned a test grade. 
50 points- following directions
50 points- in-depth coverage of organizations

Slideshow will be assigned a daily grade.
50 points- following directions
40 points- originality
10 points- delivery of presentation
