Statement of the Problem Many teachers realize that students are uninterested in historical literature.  However, students do not realize that historical literature from periods such as the Harlem Renaissance can give them a better understanding of current artists.  As a student, how can you show parallels between the Harlem Renaissance artist and modern artists.  
Duration of Learning Web: Three weeks  
Materials Needed: One computer per group; Word; PowerPoint;  

Scaffolding Activities: In class, students will complete scaffolding activities to ensure that their basic computer skills are adequate enough to complete this unit.

         Create an original poem.
2.09 Analyze persuasive devices found in various texts.
        Critique the effectiveness of the following rhetorical devices: logos, pathos, and ethos.
2.10 Read to interpret ideas, recognize relationships, and make judgments.
         Use evidence from the text to support interpretations, to understand relationships, and to validate    judgments.
2.11 Recognize the influence of an authors background and experience on literary work.
        Investigate author's background to determine the following influences demonstrated in the text: time period, gender, biases, environment, and ethnicity.
3.01 Access and demonstrate multiple technological reference sources.
        Use electronic media and other audio-visual media to conduct research and to create and present research-bases products.
