Statement of Problem Many teachers realize that students are uninterested in Historical Literature.  However, students do not realize that Historical Literature from periods such as the Harlem Renaissance can give them a better understanding of current artists. As a student, how can you show parallels between the Harlem Renaissance artists and modern artists?  
Duration 4 weeks  
Materials Needed One computer per group, Microsoft Word, and PowerPoint

  Content Standard:

1.0 - The student will develop reading and listening skills necessary for word recognition, comprehension, interpretation, analysis, evaluation, and appreciation of print and non-print text.
 

2.0 - The student will develop the structural and creative skills of the writing process necessary to produce written language that can be read, presented to, and interpreted by various audiences.

Students will follow the links to the various sites that will give information about The Harlem Renaissance.

After viewing The History of the Harlem Renaissance, Art of the Harlem Renaissance, Poetry and Prose of the Harlem Renaissance, and Music of the Harlem Renaissance, the student will click the Activity links sequentially.

After all Activity Assignments have been completed, the student will then click on the assessment link and follow the directions posted.

The Harlem Renaissance was a very creative time in the history of American Literature. The student will get the opportunity to express himself or herself through poetry, music, or art.
