10.2.2     interpret an author's point of view (1st person or 3rd person limited/omniscient)
10.2.3     identify the simile, metaphor, onomatopoeia. alliteration, or personification in a given portion of a poem
10.2.7     differentiate between verbal and situational irony
10.2.8     pinpoint a cause/effect relationship in a given passage
10.2.10   determine the significance/meaning of a symbol in a written selection
10.2.12    select the allusion in a given text

Teacher Performance Indicators

Reading: The student is able to:
10.2.11    create an original project
 

Viewing and Representing: The student is able to:
10.3.1     develop media applications for a variety of audiences and purposes
10.3.2     use media to view, to read, to write, to communicate, and to create
10.3.4     research, organize, interpret, and present information from print and non-print media
10.3.5    analyze the impact of media on everyday life

Speaking and Listening: The student is able to
10.4.1     give and receive directions accurately and succinctly
 

 

Duration: Students will complete this learning web at a pace determined by each group. It will be complete by the end of the six weeks.

 

At the completion of the learning web, students will write a five paragraph essay to reflect on the learning web. Students will answer these questions.

Required Materials: Computers with internet access, MS Word, MS PowerPoint, Dictionaries

 

Statement of the Problem: Each 10th grade student in the Memphis City School System is required to pass the Tennessee Gateway Exam given at the end of the school year.  In order to be properly prepared for this exam, how can you gain a working knowledge of the literary elements that you will be tested on?
