Problem:  We are planning a party.  We will have juice and cookies!  We need help figuring out how to evenly share the cookies.  Work through the following activities and you will be able to help us solve our problem!

Duration:  1 week

Required Supplies:  1 computer per group, brown and black construction paper, scissors and glue

Scaffolding:  This is a teacher led activity.  The students will already have a basic knowledge of the computer and basic number recognition.

Activities

Step 1 Everyone should go to the carpet and listen as the teacher reads The Doorbell Rang by Pat Hutchins. (Knowledge, Comprehension, Application)

Step 2 Click on the child to play a counting game.  (Application, Analysis)

Step 3 Click on the sheep to play a numbers game.  (Application)

Step 4 Click on the frog to complete a counting worksheet.  (Application, Analysis)

Step 5 We will make pretend cookies.  You will cut circles out of brown construction paper for the cookies.  Then you will cut small shapes from the black paper for the chocolate chips.  After gluing the chocolate chips onto the cookies, we will count all the cookies.  We will then work on dividing them up evenly among the class. (Synthesis)

Congratulations!  You have completed all of the required activities.  Now we are ready to celebrate!

Assessments:  Because this is teacher directed, all activities will be closely supervised. However, only the counting worksheet and the counting game will be printed upon completion for evaluation by the teacher.  Upon completion of all activities, the class will use the skills gained to calculate the number of cookies needed for the class party.
