Scenario
for Activity 5. You are a 25 year old male/female who works at an
architectural firm as a junior executive. You currently make
$35,000 a year. You own a condo and your mortgage payment is $800
a month. You currently do not have any debt.
|
| Activity 5. Based on the info from the above scenario you will create a budget spreadsheet on Excel. You will construct 4 columns and 22 rows. Across the top you will name your columns Category, Budget Amount, Actual Amount, and Difference. Make these 12 pt font and bold these. Under category you will put Income. Make Income 10 pt font and bold. Under Income you will put Wages/Income. Make Wages/income 10 pt font. Under Wages/ Income you will put Income Subtotal (10 pt font). Make Income Subtotal italicized. Skip 2 rows then put Expenses (10 pt font and bold). Under this you will think of all expenses you should have based on the scenario above (mortgage, utilities, grocery, shopping, entertainment, transportation, long-term savings, emergency savings, donations etc). You can add categories of expenses if you like. Under all expenses put Expense Total (10 pt font and bold). Skip a row and put Net Income (Income-Expenses) using 14 pt font and bold. Do this for the next 3 cells located horizontally. Fill in cells with amounts of expenses you think the person above would have based on the information given to you. Using your formula feature you did in your scaffolding exercises you will add all income, add all expenses in the Income Subtotal cells and Expenses cells. Then subtract total Budgeted Income Subtotal from total Budgeted Expense in the Net Income cell. Do the same for Actual Income Subtotal and Expenses and Difference. You will format the cells under Difference by subtracting Actual Amount - Budget Amount. (synthesis) |

The second slide will be titled Expenses with 3-4 examples of expenses. The last page will be the equation for a budget: Income - Expenses= Net Income with your actual results from one member's budget page. You will present this as a group on the smart board.
