Believing that college is more than just the classroom experience, the Student Activities Council seeks to promote campus unity and improve the quality of student life by providing entertaining activities and various opportunities for campus involvement.

SAC Gameshow

Freshmen Gameshow

During New Student Orientation (FOCUS), SAC hosts the Freshmen Gameshow. Students play games and win prizes in our high-energy "Focus Feud and Let's Make A Deal."

Midnight Movies

Every month, SAC partners with a quaint movie theatre in Humboldt to provide low cost movies ($3) to our Union students. This is a beloved Union activity and we almost always sell out the theatre. The theatre is located fifteen minutes north of Jackson (directions below). Because this event is held off campus, we encourage carpooling. Tickets are sold outside the Student Dining Hall a few days in advance of the showing.

Our partnership with the theatre does not allow us to choose the movie, but we do not sell tickets to R rated shows. We use discretion with the other films we show, although some students may wish to evaluate the movie content beforehand to ensure that the movie will not be a distraction or fall outside their personal Christian liberty. Three excellent film review and content sites are www.rottentomatoes.com, www.screenit.com, www.pluggedin.com.

Directions: 1408 Main St, Humboldt, TN

From Jackson, drive north on Highway 45 Bypass. One mile past the airport, turn left onto Main Street and follow until you see the theater on the left.

If you miss this turn, continue on until the light at Central Ave. Turn left on Central Ave. Follow until it dead-ends at Main Street. Turn right on Main Street, and you will see the theater.

Each Fall and Spring, SAC shows a movie on a huge, outdoor screen in the Watters Quad. Free popcorn, candy and sodas are provided. Be sure to bring a blanket or chair!


SAC Homecoming concert

Homecoming Concert

During fall Homecoming festivities, SAC hosts the annual Homecoming Concert. Tickets are available to students at a low cost and are sold a few weeks in advance of the show. Past artists include Lecrae, Mikeschair, After Edmund, Shane and Shane, Bebo Norman, Derek Webb and Sandra McCracken. Carl Perkins Christmas Party

Each December, SAC hosts a Christmas extravaganza for children involved with the local Carl Perkins Center for the Prevention of Child Abuse. Organizations, departments, groups and friends sponsor the children and spend the evening eating dinner, making crafts and opening gifts with the children. The Union community loves the opportunity to serve together and spend time with these wonderful children from our local area.

SAC Variety Show

Variety Show

The Student Activities Council presents the 15th annual Variety Show held at the Carl Perkins Civic Center in downtown Jackson on Saturday, April 21, 2012, 7 p.m.

No doubt the largest student led event on campus all year, Variety Show highlights student talent in the fullest sense. Students in small and large group categories perform many types of talent, and they wow the audience with dance, song, creativity and more. This is an evening you will not want to miss!

Be Our Guest

SAC's Be Our Guest brings faculty, staff and students together for a home-cooked meal. Faculty and staff open their homes, cook dinner and spend an evening with a group of students who sign up for the night. Faculty and staff enjoy this time just as much as students. Everyone treasures these intentional times together and considers it a favorite.

May Day

During the busy and stressful end of the spring semester, SAC organizes May Day to allow students a chance to spend an evening hanging out and playing games together. Food, games and music create a relaxed environment and a chance to take a break from studying.

  • Mar 28, 2012 - SGA: Class Officer Interest Meeting - After Senate - 10:00 p.m.

    If you are interested in running for a class office, then this meeting is for you! Come find out from current class officers what the job of class officer really looks like! The meeting will be held after regular SGA Student Senate.
  • Mar 30, 2012 - SGA: Class Officer Petitions Due - 4:00 p.m.

    Make sure you have turned in your petitions if you would like to run for a Student Government Association class office.
  • Apr 11, 2012 - SGA: Open Senate with Dr. Dockery - 9:30 p.m.

    Dr. Dockery will be the guest speaker at SGA Student Senate discussing the University budget and how your tuition dollars are spent. Dr. Dockery will open the floor to any questions/concerns you have. All students are welcome and encouraged to attend. Legislation will also be presented as usual as well as class officer campaign speeches.

    Come find out how to get involved in student organizations on campus! You can stop by on your way to lunch or class to become familiar with many of the student organizations.
  • Feb 21, 2012 - Student Leadership & Engagement: Student Org Presidents' Summit - 9:00 p.m.

    On Tuesday, February 21 from 9:00-10:00pm in Bowld 221 we will have a Student Organization Presidents’ Summit. This meeting will provide all student organization presidents with the opportunity to learn about all the policies governing student organizations, such as fundraising, t-shirt approval, space reservations, etc. and will be led by Dean Thornbury. This meeting is required for all student organization presidents, so if you are unable to attend, make sure to send someone in your place (preferably the vice-president).

    In partnership with the Moore and Barney II Foundations, Union established the Barnabas Leadership Award to recognize students who have demonstrated leadership in the area of community and ministry service. Juniors who have demonstrated significant leadership skills and a willingness to serve the campus and community are nominated by faculty, staff or students. Two recipients are named by the Barnabas Award Selection Committee and are awarded $500. The recipients are asked to give at least $100 of their award to a charitable agency of their choice. Nominations are due by February 24.
