Interfraternity Council
The Interfraternity Council (IFC) seeks to maintain fraternity life and interfraternity relations within the university; to further sound scholarship and intellectual accomplishment; and to cooperate with the university's administration in the maintenance of high social standards. The council is composed of three delegates from each chapter of the social fraternities on campus: Alpha Tau Omega, Lambda Chi Alpha and Sigma Alpha Epsilon.

Each fall, the IFC will host Recruitment, the period when new students are first eligible to join one of the fraternities. Recruitment begins on Monday, September 6 at 6:00pm with the IFC Open Party held on the Great Lawn by the Bell Tower. The Recruitment schedule and rules are explained to all participants at this event. Over the next two weeks, each fraternity hosts two parties for potential new members. In the first round of parties, open parties, all participants are encouraged to go to each house and meet the men who are a part of the fraternities on campus. The Open Party schedule will be as follows:

• ATO - Tuesday, September 7 at 7:30pm;
• SAE - Thursday, September 9 at 6:30pm;
• Lambda Chi - Friday, September 10 at 6:00pm

All male students are eligible to participate in Recruitment, but each fraternity requires members take a full-time load of hours and maintain a certain GPA to be initiated and remain active.

Participating in Recruitment in the fall carries with it no obligation to join any group. It is quite common for men to participate without having the intention to join any of the organizations; for them, recruitment is an opportunity to meet other students, enjoy themselves, and eat nice meals for a very low price (…in college, you are ALWAYS in search of cheap food). It is also not unusual for the same students to find themselves in a circle of new brothers when just a few days prior they thought the Greek system was probably not for them.
