Sept. 19, 2014 - Dr. Mike Shackleford, Associate Professor of Education, has partnered with Rucker-Stewart Middle School in an effort to help the school see greater gains in student achievement. Shackleford began the long-term effort on September 10 and will remain with the work until May 2015.
Shackleford is working with the teachers to help them learn new and innovative methods, but credits the teachers for being able to find their own solutions to reach greater student gains. To this end, Shackleford states, “Most of the answers are within the school. All I do is help unlock them through sharing the craft of teaching. If we get the process right, generally the product will follow.”
Shackleford has a heart for education, and most importantly, students. The boys and girls in the school serve as his ultimate motivation, as he wants to help teachers see such students improve academically.
Shackleford serves in the School of Education on Union University’s Hendersonville, TN campus. Union offers a variety of graduate degrees in Hendersonville, including both Master of Education and Doctor of Education degrees.
