
November 21, 2014 - Several Doctor of Education students from Union University’s Germantown, TN campus recently presented at the annual conference of the Mid-South Educational Research Association (MSERA). Two of the students, Lauren Balentine and Kirkland Hamilton, were recipients of awards for their presentations. Aszure Brown, Kristal Carey, Patricia Hervey, and Jonathan Grissom also presented their research.
November 21, 2014 - Several Doctor of Education students from Union University’s Germantown, TN campus recently presented at the annual conference of the Mid-South Educational Research Association (MSERA). Two of the students, Lauren Balentine and Kirkland Hamilton, were recipients of awards for their presentations. Aszure Brown, Kristal Carey, Patricia Hervey, and Jonathan Grissom also presented their research.
Balentine’s research, The Effects of Single-Sex Classes on Academic Performance and the American College Test (ACT), was the recipient of the MSERA Foundation MSERA Support award. Likewise, Hamilton’s research, The Effect of Common Core State Standards Implementation on ACT Scores, was recognized as a recipient in the Research in Progress category. Dr. Stephen R. Marvin serves as the dissertation chair for Balentine, while Dr. Dianne Morgan serves as chair for Hamilton.
The Mid-South Educational Research Association (MSERA) is a nonprofit incorporated educational organization whose purposes are to encourage quality educational research in the Mid-South and to promote the application of the results of quality educational research in schools. The 43rd annual conference was held in Knoxville and included the presentation of research by faculty and students from numerous universities, including Austin Peay, Arkansas State, Mississippi State, MTSU, Murray State, the University of Arkansas, the University of Alabama and others. Union was one of the few Christian universities represented at the academic conference.
