Conference Description

Dear colleagues,

Let me invite you to register for the upcoming CCCU Conference on Technology. If you have participated in the past, you know of the benefits of this annual gathering of IT administrators from sister schools - the sharing of expertise through formal sessions and informal networking.

Union University, which is located in Western Tennessee, will be hosting this year's conference, May 28-31. This year's theme is on Faculty Development, in particular on the use of Instructional Technology in the classroom. The conference is aimed both at the traditional group of CIOs and Computing Center Directors who have to provide leadership to their campuses on emerging technologies, and to Directors of Faculty Development and Instructional Technology who provide training and are "cheerleaders" who promote exciting new possibilities. A special invitation is extended to teaching faculty to showcase some of the successful things they have experimented with in the classroom, i.e. many of the sessions will be a "best practice" type of presentation.

The following Keynote addresses will be given:
  • Marti Harris, Research Director at Gartner Inc., will give an address entitled Gartner Update on E-learning in Higher Education.
  • Van Weigel from Eastern University is the author of Deep Learning for a Digital Age: How Technology can Transform Higher Education. His presentation will focus on the faculty development side of deep learning and collaborative Internet technologies using the concept of "discovery-based learning".
  • Lorne Oke from Bethel College in Indiana will give an address on Planning for Information Technology in the Small College, based on his dissertation research on Technology Master Plans.
If you know of someone else at your school who might be interested in attending or presenting, please forward this invitation to them. If your university, like ours, has an Innovative Teaching award, then past recipients may be excellent candidates for sharing their success at our conference. Many schools now also have a Center for Instructional Technology or Center for Faculty Development - please pass on the information to the respective Directors too (or forward me their email address and I'll send them a personal invitation).

The schedule and registration information for the conference can be found at http://www.uu.edu/events/cccu/tech03 The registration fee is only $260 ($240 for those who pay by April 30), and covers both on-campus lodging and meals.

If you have any unanswered questions, please don't hesitate to contact me. Hope to see you there!
