MINISTRY LEADERSHIP CONFERENCE SET FOR FEB. 23-24 AT UNION UNIVERSITY
JACKSON, January 25--Union University's ninth annual Ministry Leadership Conference, Wanted: Dead and Alive," is scheduled for Feb. 23-24 at the University. Registration for the conference begins Friday, Feb. 23, at 4:30 p.m. in the main lobby of Union's Penick Academic Complex.
The purpose of the conference is to show ministers how to be more effective in meeting the needs of people in the 21st century," Wayne Day, coordinator of the conference, said. The weekend will reflect on what it means to be alive to Christ and dead to self.
Speakers for the conference include:
- Roger Abington, pastor of Pleasant Plains Church, Jackson, leads the Parson's Hitching Post," a session on premarital counseling.
- Wes Black, assistant professor of youth ministry at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, Fort Worth, Texas, leads Deputize the Posse," lessons on working with volunteers in ministry, and Round Up," advice in leading Disciple Now" weekends.
- Keith Brown, minister of music and education/children at Poplar Heights Church, Jackson, leads Hoedown," focusing on creating a music ministry that meets needs.
- Michael Doran, a detective with the Madison County sheriff's department, leads Shootouts and Trail Rides," sessions on gang awareness.
- Tony Jones, minister of youth at First Church, Covington, leads Branded," offering advice on leading youth in Experiencing God" courses.
- Tony Kail of the Jackson YMCA leads Fool's Gold," a seminar on cult awareness and occult activity.
- Monica Keathley, a WMU associate from the Arkansas Baptist Convention, leads Side Saddle" and Trail Blazing," sessions on ministry and missions opportunities for women.
- Paul Turner, a discipleship training associate with the Baptist Sunday School Board, leads Straight Shooter; Sign Post" on choosing right from wrong and Circle the Wagons," sharing recent developments in discipleship training.
- Michael Woolridge, a youth Sunday school associate with the Baptist Sunday School Board, will lead the The Ol' Watering Hole," new ideas for Sunday school teachers, and Bounty Hunter," a session on reaching target groups for Bible study.
The conference is open to everyone who wishes to participate. Cost for the conference is $25 for individuals, or $50 for church groups of any size. For more information call Wayne Day at (901) 661-5270.
