UNION UNIVERSITY'S BACH'S LUNCH RECITAL SERIES TO OPEN MARCH 6

JACKSON, February 16--Union University's annual Bach's Lunch Recital series begins Wednesday, March 6, at noon in the University's Recital Hall, Room D-3.

The half-hour program of chamber music opens with Lindenwood Studio of Percussion and Union University's Percussion Ensemble performing the music of J. S. Bach.

The series continues each Wednesday throughout the month of March. Fifteen minutes prior to each recital, an opportunity will be provided to meet the artist as the selected pieces of music are discussed.

Pianist Irene Buchanan, accompanied by a string quartet Marshall Fine, Margaret Thomas, Michelle Fine, and T. Donley Thomas, will be featured Wednesday, March 13, in Union University's G. M. Savage Memorial Chapel. The quintet will perform Piano Quintet in C Minor, Op. 1 by Ernst von Dohnányi.

Union faculty will perform Wednesday, March 20, in the G. M. Savage Memorial Chapel. David Dennis will perform Domenico Scarlatti's Sonata in A Major, K. 209 and Sonata in A Major, K. 113. David McClune will perform Pastorale for Clarinet and Organ by Peter Mathews. Scott Bennett will accompany McClune on organ. Terry McRoberts will perform Selected Preludes, Op.28 and Waltz in E Minor by Frederic Chopin. Concluding the program is Scott Bennett with Finale" from Sonata No. 1 by Félix-Alexandre Guilmant.

Closing the series on Wednesday, March 27, in Union's Harvey Lecture Hall are the University's Handbell Choir and Opera Workshop. The Handbell Choir will perform Arnold B. Sherman's Flourishes and Cynthia Dobrinski's Contemplation and Scherzando and the Opera Workshop will perform scenes from Yeomen of the Guard.
