JACKSON, March 14--Visiting artist Loren Baker will present a workshop, lecture and exhibition beginning Monday, March 18, in the Art Department of Union University.
A mixed media workshop led by Baker will be held on Tuesday, March 19, at 9:25 a.m. The workshop titled Akeda"/ Lech-Lecha" is intended to generate creativity and provide an understanding of text and image. Baker will also present The McRode/Isenheim Altarpieces" lecture at 4:30 p.m. This lecture will focus on the post modern ideas of art as site specific, active rather than passive, participatory and engaging. Both events will be held in the Art Department at Union University.
Baker will present a slide lecture of his work in the Art Department on Wednesday, March 20, at 10 a.m. A reception to open the exhibit will be held immediately following the slide presentation.
Baker's work will be on exhibit in the Union University Art Gallery through Friday, April 12. The exhibit will close Friday, March 25, after 4 p.m. through Tuesday, April 8, for the University's spring break.
A professor of art at Roberts Wesleyan College in Rochester, New York, Baker received an Award of Excellence from Christians in the Visual Arts in 1993. His work is best known for its examination of the lives of early Christian martyrs and its focus on the relationship between pain, suffering and spiritual experience.
