JACKSON, March 18-- Suzanne Wallis of Baldwyn is one of only 52 nursing students from across the country selected to receive a 1996 Fuld Fellowship from the Helene Fuld Health Trust.
Wallis, a senior nursing major at Union University, was selected from a field of more than 300 candidates based on her scholastic achievement, community involvement, and personal statements.
One nursing student from each state is selected for the fellowship, which funds a study-tour of London Aug. 9-19. During the tour, Wallis will study oncology (the study of tumors) at the Ninth International Conference on Cancer Nursing in Brighton, Sussex, United Kingdom.
Before departing for Europe, Wallis will attend the 1996 annual convention of the National Student Nurses' Association in New Orleans April 10-14, where she and other Fuld Fellows will be honored in an awards ceremony.
"Suzanne is an extremely deserving individual who will represent both Union University and our profession very favorably as a recipient of this Fuld Fellowship," Carla Sanderson, dean of Union University's School of Nursing, said.
Wallis is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Donnie Wallis of Baldwyn.
