JACKSON, April 30-- Baptist Educators' Clearinghouse (http://www.uu.edu/library/bec.htm), an on-line information service of Union University, was recently established to encourage communication and resource-sharing among Baptist educators.
"Our goal is to maintain BEC as the central supplier of Internet links to Baptist institutions and information of interest to educators," Steve Baker, Union's reference services librarian and creator of BEC, said. "BEC is our effort to establish an online environment where Baptist educators can easily share ideas, comment on issues, make announcements and generally communicate with one another. In doing this, we hope to encourage the integration of faith with learning."
BEC, which is available at no cost via the Internet, provides links to several areas of information, including the Online Center for Faith and Learning, Baptist listservs and newsgroups, and various directories of Baptist institutions.
BEC's newest service is BECLIST (http://www.uu.edu/library/beclist.htm), a listserv especially for Baptist educators. The free service allows subscribers to distribute e-mail messages to the entire BEC mailing list by sending a message to the server address (uuserver@buster.uu.edu). Baptist educators may subscribe to the list by sending the message "sub beclist your name" to the same address.
