JACKSON, May 21-- Kenneth Hartley, University professor of music and director of the Union University Singers and Proclamation, was named the University's 1995 Faculty of the Year during Awards Day festivities.
Hartley, who joined Union's faculty in 1969, was nominated for the honor through a student, faculty and staff vote. He was chosen from a pool of finalists by a joint committee of students, faculty and administration.
Union's Faculty of the Year award is presented annually to the Union University educator who demonstrates outstanding characteristics in the classroom, the community and the church.
"Dr. Hartley is most deserving of this honor," Howard Newell, Union's vice president for academic affairs, said. "He is an outstanding faculty member and person, as well as a devoted servant of Union University."
Hartley is active throughout the community of Jackson as a member of the Jackson Symphony League and the Rotary Club. He has served many West Tennessee churches as interim minister music and youth during his tenure at Union.
He holds a bachelor of science in music education from the University of Missouri, a master of sacred music from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary, and a doctor of education from Florida State University.
